Glitter In The Air - Pink

Though i'm slightly embarrassed to admit it, I heard this on The Hills last night. and the metaphors and images and personification all caught my att. [God, im starting to sound like my creative writing prof.] Uhh...the song is just beautifully blunt. Glitter in the Air is off Pink's Funhouse album.

passion.

Currently, my phone's background- I JUST LOVE THIS COVER OF M. ALI ON ESQUIRE MAGAZINE. I was in this record store in Atl over Thanksgiving and there was a book of the 100 best magazine covers [EVER]. It was only like $15 but I had just splurged on some Gucci frames and swore i'd spend NO MORE MONEY. So, I left it there =( But if anyone is lookin' to buy me a reasonable Christmas/Bday gift, there you go! Anyway, in the book is where i found this. Its sorta where my heads at right now-

Don't EVER misconstrue my dignity with pride. As anyone knows to keep a thing and to stifle a thing is different. Pride [in abundance] can stifle me, but dignity can only keep me-

Donnie McClurkin!

Wow! So D. Mcclurkin came to my church [Mississippi Blvd. Christian Church; senior servant Dr./Pastor Frank A. Thomas] this past Sunday. And I've always been a fan of his gospel min.. He was featured in our Christmas Concert. Which btw the children's, youth and adult choir were all excellent!! Anyhow I was definitely impressed by Mr. McClurkin's vocals, testimony and mainly his dedication. He performed his music in mult. languages [English [of course] Japanese, Dutch, Spanish] and still managed to be just as powerful. In Japanese, he brought tears to my eyes! Most of the time I couldn't understand a word he was singing, but I certainly felt his heart in the music. And that is whats powerful-

Point being, whatever career I choose I honestly hope my dedication can be received just as powerfully. You dont have to understand me-

SHOE-OUT!!

LMAO!! THIS IS ALMOST COMPARABLE TO 'CRAZY GIRL ON TRAIN'. Now, I am by NO MEANS political. I actually try to stray away from politics as much as I can [other than adhering to my honorable and thus righteous duties as a citizen of EARTH]. But otherwise, I have my opinions. And in my O_PINION- THIS SHIT HILARIOUS!

For those unaware, its customary in Iraq/Arab-culture for shoes to be used as a sign of belittlement and UTTER disrespect because "it is the dirtiest part on [also] the lowest part of one's body." After itd been torn down, some Iraqi-people used their shoes to beat the head of the statue Sadaam Husein...Which shines some light on just how special Pres. Bush must be!

"...but I'm in love with someone else"

Aside from my most recent blog entry, Other Variations..., I've taken a small [nonetheless constructive] break from blogging. However, I'm back! But amid my 2 week-ish absence I've [somewhat] assessed myself [the blogger] and YOU [the blog reader].
In conclusion: IM BORED WITH MYSELF! This is NOT me. Well, certainly it is; but concurring, it isn't. I like poetry! Like hard core-spitting on the mic-out of breath-sweat dripping-I'm black and I'm proud-soufully simple-analytically complex-politically incorrectly stated-spiritually electrifying-mentally stimulating-SLAM-spoken word-prose proposed-rhythmically sound POETRY! Ya know, the GOOD stuff! And while the things I blog about are also interests of mine; I cant help but feel like they're [probably] more things that interest you [or so I assume].I'm a follower of many blogs and while some defy the norm, many if not most are just online fashion/media-takes.
[X]This just marks the turning point for F.L.S where I insert more elements outside that which can be seen on Talk Soup. The idea here is to create something worth reading-

If you can't be with the one you love...

Yes, I'm a label whore. && in a previous blog-entry I mentioned how I'd been wanting a white Chanel umbrella with the black monograms C's. Well, this isn't it. However, Burberry [almost to a T] emanated my ideological vision for Chanel only- for Burberry. And this one only retails at $225

Cringe/ Fringe...its all the same

ok- just when I was starting to think that I had isolated myself into solitary-confinement [away from the Fall "Fringe" Fashion] I ran across the these words that settled my forlorn 'tude- "When I see fringe bags, I am reminded of fun houses and door-way-beads. Always fun to run through but somewhat annoying after a while. " THANK GOD! I couldn't have put it more eloquently. Undeniably, 'fringe is fun', but somethin' about the way it just hangs there- it does ABSOLUTELY nothing for me! And there's SO MUCH of it this season. ugh...
The mic cord pulled me back. I should've dropped it from my hand and left it at the scene of the rhyme. Now we all serving time. Even my prose is on probation-

The Death of Adam- 88 Keys

Of course, anything Kanye takes an interest in- I happily concur alongside[even if it has a hoop in its nostril and hair that resembles brillow [j/k 88 Keys is dope]].

The Death of Adam: Aghh!! Its SO...[whats the word]...funny? [no] interesting? [nahh] Damn! I dont know- and rarely am I at a loss for words. It's [??] ...I really can't say. Its just different- the concept. the sound. It makes you feel good [smiling]. There. Simply, that's what it is. Its just a light-hearted, 'feel good' album. For those who dont think Kanye has a sense of humor- he must [to have produced such work]! Just get it. Listen to it. Laugh for a while. And appreciate it. Good stuff.

Beyonce interview with Oprah

I'm not a big fan of Sasha Fierce, but I'm a HUGE fan of Beyonce's.

Bang! Bang!

I originally posted these on a former blog, BUT! They're so SICK I had to pay homage here too! These [seriously] are the BEST fuckin' pumps I've seen in a really long time! Karl Lagerfeld Blew Me Away w. these [literally!] Omg! I'm in Love! Btw, those are Madonna's heels wedged inside. She showed up in these [bad ass shoes] at the premiere of 'Filth and Wisdom' in mid-Oct. and apparently not everyone was as enthused as I. Yo, some things just are what they are. I highly doubt Madonna supports gun violence because she rocked these at a premiere! They're GORGEOUS shoes! Thats it! Hey! anything mafia-esque renders fashion to me [especially with Chanel stamped somewhere on it]! [sigh] and the award for best shoes...

How could you be so Heartless

Believe it or not- I've been lookin' for a Chanel umbrella for the longest! I was hoping for a white one with the monogram C's [dont ask]- but this one has the quilted handle. it retails for $600.
very cool.

Spoon Feed me PLEASE!!

I have a confession. I'm a baby. Well, I'd like think I've matured to a toddler-stage. oK- not literally! But concerning music- yes, i am not fully developed [probably nowhere near]. Actually, when I met Lu "Lupe Fiasco" thats one the first things I told him, "I just recently became a fan". Because I had. I'm talkin' like...the release of The Cool-fan. But I absolutely Love HIS music [now] much along with Kaye [we go back to college dropout L0L!!] and N.E.R.D and i even like the Cool Kids. Basically, I've become acquainted with this whole different part of ME!! Anyway, I really wanted to take a min. and give MY feedback on the new hip-hop game. I love it! I love the new extremes its reaching. Umm...gosh...I have so much I want to say. Its so important to understand why this music is good [because as many skateboard kids there are that feel what im feeling, there are a lot who still dont get it]. Good Music: I've been writing/reading poetry my whole life. Mother to Son-Langston Hughes was the first piece I ever memorized. Ever since then I've fallen in love with it. Me and words have a relationship- no lie. And I've found that in the past I've merely skimmed the surface of rap/hip hop [the two are different] because though often the music was lyrically sound, only in rare cases was it profoundly so. And I have neither the patience nor time for that which does not stimulate. Still! We all have a universal goal just to be understood- to have someone say i feel where you comin' from. Which is the very reason Hughes, and Gibran, and Frost, and Emerson, and Confucius etc.[it goes on forever] are as significant today as were during their generations; because each found a balance between whats relevant [to his/her generation] and whats timeless [to the world]and fused the two. Its about balance. Thats exactly what this new generation of Hip-Hoppers are doin'-a balancing act and its PURE POETRY!! Once I got that, there was no turning back!! I was listenin' to "Dumb it down" [Lupe Fiasco] and i can't lie- I don't care how intelligent you are, at some point you're gonna have to break out the encyclopedia listenin' to Lupe. As an Eng. major, naturally, I broke it down as I would do any poem/paper. He basically talks about how the demographic he appeals to wants him to "dumb down" his lyrics [make them more commercial so to speak], but in contrast they're still buyin', still supportin', and still listenin' to his music. So he opts NOT to "dumb it down". As it goes, Just as i dont always understand everything he raps about, i inadvertently am becoming more endowed...just listenin'. Sometimes thats all it takes. Just listen. Its like when you're little and you dont want to take medicine, so your mom crunches it into tiny pieces and sprinkles it into juice or something. Anything to distract you from knowing you're being fed whats necessary. Its the same thing. Our generation is so accustomed to things quick- we dont take time to read or properly digest. But we HAVE to get fed. So crunch it up and give it to me over a beat! Yo, we're begging for it!! Its [really] just about leaving your impression on this Earth so that when you're long gone someone can look where your foot imprinted [and perhaps not know who you were or what you did] but they can feel you-

"Welcome to Hi-Skool"

Yo [laughing]! So, I'm doin' a little homework when my friend tells me to check out this website. Cool. In a nutshell: There's this site dedicated to colleges and universities [I wont mention the site because I neither advocate nor support it]. Basically: you sign on anonymously and submit questions/topics/campus news ect. that relate to your skool [You can see how this could be a useful resource for sharing skool news, upcoming events, choosing good professors etc., but since our generation can't seem to adhere-unfortunately- its turned into a negative gossip column-] In turn, people anonymously comment and give their thoughts/opinions in full detail. Everything from "sluts" to "baddest bitches on campus" to "girls sucking dick" to "guys on the DL" has been touched upon on this site. And who's to say its true? But! Who's to disagree? [especially when its all anonymous!] To sum it up: My name had been mentioned on the site [by whom? I haven'tt the slightest [Then! they mentioned the full government "Brittany Patrice Johnson"L0L!!]]. And some people didn't have all nice things to say-

My Response: I'm not the type of person to take things [too much] to heart. In fact, I kinda laughed at some of the posts. But in ALL seriousness. I would be doing MYSELF an injustice not to speak on MY behalf. Plainly put, don't grow Big Monkey Balls just because it says anonymous. Other people may be none the wiser, but you know under public circumstances you'd not be so BOLD. That makes you a BitchAss [Thanks Diddy]. Be it good or bad- leave your thoughts just that! The site is WHACK!! The concept [could've been cool], but now Thats WHACK, Too! I doubt I'll ever devote any more of my life to it. && I suggest you don't either. Yo, 2 fingers. Its love-

The Best BUMS!

808's & Heartbreak and LupE.N.D and The Blueprint 3!!

I know a lot of tracks have been leaked from Kanye's 808 so willfully i listened and i must say- the auto-tuning gets a lil' annoying after about 3 songs BUT im sooooooo excited about the video releases!! I know they're gonna be stupid creative-

Hip-Hop vs. High-Fashion

Ok- I'm no lyricist nor am I a fashionista. But WHO really is? I mean, either is opinion-based right? But thats neither here nor there [or is it]. Question: Can the two collab.? I would LOVE to say the idea is conducive, but [to me] its not! Hip-hop [not music] has always rendered rebellion. I know what you're thinking- so has fashion over the past 50 years, right? yes, but on two different extremes. Its like trying to breed two different species of animals. You can't have a pig fuck a frog and make a Prog. It just doesn't work. But thats not to say they can't cohabitate in a civil manner. I love the idea of new hip-hop adopting fashion and culture- Just as I love that new fashion is adopting more urban looks. But one is one. And the other is the other. And thats pretty much that on that-

LOL!! FUCK EVERYTHING I JUST SAID. I JUST READ OVER WHAT I WROTE. OBAMA IS PRESIDENT! ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. LETS BREED PROGS!!

To the Only Genius I Know- WHAT UP!

SHOUTS OUT to my 'Big Bro' Skewby. I always gotta show LOVE to him! Honestly, for like the past two years WHATEVER I've done thats been good/positive, chances are its because he encouraged me to do so- Yo, if you dont know this kid, he comes Highly recommended- by ME! And if you can't get wit him, I suggest you find the next best thing. Its all about surrounding yourself with positive people! And there hasn't been a moment where I couldn't depend on him to flip a bad situation for me. Or at least help me find some good in it. && his music is hot! He's probably one of the hardest workin' people I know and he gets nothin' but my Utmost! I love him. And even though we dont get to talk a lot [yo, he's always grindin'] when we do, its that good stuff-

Please. Please. Please. be lookin' out for him! He's been on this music-thing for so long and I promise he's paid his dues and I know it's 'bout to pay him back- it's already startin' too. FRESHMAN COLLEGE TOUR goin' on now!!

My President is BLACK!

"I will never forget who this victor really belongs to- it belongs to you![...] I was never the likely candidate for this office [...] this is your victory!"

Obama remains humble while delivering his first speech as the 44th president of the United States! Reflections: I immediately jumped on the Obama band-wagon when Clinton lost the democratic nominee. I read about him, I read from him, I even began to read FOR him. He interested me, as a person. At the time it was hard to fathom that someone so humble, so real, so personable, so young, so black, so liberal, so democratic, so unlikely could actually win as president. But the idea was nice. It was nice to believe that justice still could prevail. It was nice to think that change could be so blatant. It was nice to have something to believe in- to work towards. But thats all it stayed for the bulk of the election- a nice thought. I don't know if I ever imagined this moment. His victory. Our victory. But like many others, I bought my 'Obama' tee, I stood in line, i cast my ballot, and changed my facebook status [daily]. But still it's one of those life-altering things that just seems to surface. No matter how much you pack, plan, and prepare. Some moments are just that amazing. They cant be imangined. Much like a REALLY GOOD unexpected kiss- Obama's victory left me speechless. I could never have imagined it would feel this inexplicable! And whats most wonderful, my HBCU school and I celebrated this together! What began as a school-wide block party on campus quickly fluctuated to a march down Jefferson St. all the way to Fisk University where we hugged and screamed and clapped hands and sang and danced together- all for one purpose. on cause. on man. one moment. one movement! This is so COLOSSAL! I could never have imagined it would be this great.

Barack Obama- the 44th President of the United States, and by the way- he's black.

Get up! I get DOWN!

As I sit betwen these cynder-block walls, rockin' my Obama 'Change' tee, listenin' to Never Let Me Down [College Dropout] I am SO inspired! I'ma be real, I almost don't believe we're here! Look how far we've come! If you don't know how BIG this is- Wake The Fuck Up! This is so much more than Obama pharaphernalia, or being a democrat or republican- FUCK THAT! THIS IS ABOUT A CHANGE IN THE WAY THE WORLD ROTATES, YO! A BLACK MAN HEADING THE MOST POWERFUL NATION IN THE WORLD! Black people once weren't even allowed to learn to READ!! ALLLLLL these amenities we take for granted- NOVEMBER 4th, 2008, regardless of the polls, HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE! We did it! WE WON!! Last week was my first time EVER voting and it was so fulfilling! This election brought out more black/young voters than EVER before!! Today we broke barriers that were unfathomable yesterday! We CANT stop here! Yo, WE GOTTA KEEP GOIN'! This ish feels too damn good!
